Artistic Statement
The mental confrontation with a topic is usually the beginning of a new idea. This results in precise images or indefinite impulses. When I meet something that touches me a lot and that I can not put into words, I know that I want to follow it. The result is drawings, notes, inner pictures, moods, a feeling for a character, in a certain attitude and movement, with a specific inner tension.
The long work process in the studio and workshop also involves longer periods of reflection, so that the original idea is subject to surprising changes in an intensive crystallization process. It is precisely these unpredictable processes and results that fascinate and motivate me.
The lifelike portrayal I wanted allows the viewer direct access.
Mostly the figures are undressed and in a state of frozen movement. The naked representation emphasizes its universal expression. Fashionable accessories or clothing are therefore not to be found.
Body expression and exercise also play an important role. I practiced physical theater for a couple of years and can bring in these formative experiences in the representation of the female and male persons very well.
The emotional expression of the persons depicted is vague. Each character tells a story that can be different for each viewer. Because he or she can provide this story with their own emotions, interpretations and with their own story and thus establish a personal connection to the figure.
